On march, 27th, 2010 a discussion started on the WFMU-blog about a mysterious Austrian punk-video from the early 80s. None of the posters seemed to be sure if this video really originated from 1980/81 as indicated on youtube or if it was rather an art-school fake from the 90s/2000s. Some commented on the video as 'weirder than devo' or 'pre-clinc creepy'. (blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2010/03/unknown-austrian-band-one-potato-two-potato-19801981.html)
Some days later WMBR 88.1 FM-dj Jon Bernhardt played the song in his 'Breakfast of Champions'- radio show and credited it to an Austrian filmmaker named 'Al Bird Gore' - but also seemed uncertain about the real name of the band/singer of 'One potato two potato'. Here are some older quotes about the film I found on the internet. If anyone knows more about the origin of this mysterious video, wheter its from the eighties or fake-90s, PLEASE let me know.
"This is the legendary lost punk video 'One potato two potato' from 1980 or 1981. The original VHS-tape sold on ebay for 899 USD recently. So you better enjoy this! Some people told us that all the actors really died during the shooting of this video. Could it bee?? Dunno, but this is the first time it's available anywhere!! So have a look for yourself. And: Who is/was that masked stranger?"

Note to ONE POTATO, TWO POTATO:
In early 1981 the Austrian conceptual artist and Punk Rock musician '???' - (his name remains unknown) - recorded the song 'One Potato, Two Potato' and hired some dancers for the video shoot. He taped the footage he needed for his film in his own Viennese flat, using a - by then - professional video camera. After that he dubbed the song to a VHS-cassette and edited the film using an analogue video editing system. As the myth goes, '???' went crazy during the shoot of his film: He killed all the actors in front of the camera - using small outtakes of those murders for the finished version. After that, he hung himself, recording that last stunt as the final scene of his film.
ONE POTATO, TWO POTATO was considered lost forever. However, in December 2008 the original (?) video tape suddenly showed up on American eBay, being sold to a private Austrian collector for 899 US-Dollars."
