Ballad of the Paddled Ore: A wind sound sculpture created for I-Park in Connecticut, commissioned by Ralph Crispino jnr for the 'Illuminations' exhibition. The sculpture incorporates the base of a piano (strings and soundboard), it sits on the path of the old stone wall going through the grounds of the property, made from recycled oak that predates Ralph's ownership of I-Park there is already a resonance to the timber. I created a pendulum to move in the wind which has plumb bobs and fishing weights attached that strike the piano strings as the wind blows. On the day of filming of course it was still so I had to play the instrument myself, which slightly detracts from the purity of the piece, but weather is weather. I am very grateful for the help provided by I-Park from brothers Steve and Bill for the timber build, to Gary for removal of stone and replacement of stone. To all the staff and friends of I-Park who brought me food and encouragement, companionship and general loveliness and generosity.
To Winterberry and to Tom for the lighting, and all the people who came to the show and the auction.
