This video is one out of three from the album IN MY BACKYARD, a project on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Amsterdam Vondelpark. It’s about drawing (a huge drawing: 152 x 230 cm), video and poetry. Visual artist Jet Nijkamp and poet Rozalie Hirs worked together in this video about a huge tree, since long lying on the ground (but still living) in a field in the Vondelpark. It is used as a climbing tree, hence the title of the poem 'Klimboom / Climbing tree', and.... if you go nearer, you’ll find lots and lots of engravings in its branches, hearts, names, other words. Thus the tree in a way reflects peoples lives and watches them in silence, with its eye-shaped branches. Hence the drawing is called 'Het oog dat hoort / The hearing eye’. No wonder the poem is also about perception, through different senses, in connection with others.
