Venice and its islands - Reading and Performance Art
Reading : Alberto Toso Fei - Performance : Elena Tagliapietra
Music: Mattia Corso
September 21st, 2014 - location: Campo della Pescheria Nova, Burano island, Venice
The colorful Burano, who hosted the event in representation of the various islands of the northern part of the Laguna Veneta, welcomed the performance dedicated to Venice and its islands immediately after the end of the awards of the Regatta.
Alberto Toso Fei entertained the audience by telling anecdotes about the origin of Venice and the birth of the first communities of the North Lagoon; he also narrated stories of lace and sirens, glass and magic, and presented famous personalities, such as Attila or Casanova, and the islander musicians Baldassare Galuppi and Francesco Maria Piave.
All stories have been presented in sinergy with the live performance of Elena Tagliapietra, who has realised a body painting composition, creating a detailed embroidery that has given rise to a lace throughout the body of the young ballet dancer Sara Bonfanti. The soudtrack of the artistic and literary performance, has been realised by the composer Mattia Corso, who for this special occasion, has been inspired by arias from Verdi's works, written by the famous librettist from Murano Francesco Maria Piave.
This appointment follows, after only one month, last performance "Venice and the Cinema", and is performed as last appointment of a 2014 year full of exciting experiences, of which the main one was the land art performance "A Rose for Venice" of April 25th, that has recreated a charming human "bocolo" (rosebud) with the participation of 1,000 citizens, to speak of an active and alive city in defense of its traditions.
This 2-year-old project has been realized through 8 performances in some of the most important locations in Venice linked to an ancient legend or a tradition of historical significance; from the Pescheria of Rialto, passing by Squero San Trovaso, Forte Marghera, the Italian Telecom Future Centre, Teatro la Fenice, Piazza San Marco, the Arsenal of Venice and to Blue Moon in Venice Lido.
The project “Venice Revealed” is produced in collaboration with Vela spa, with the organizational support of 2erre Organizzazioni, and with the patronage of the Culture Department of the City of Venice. It will present, over the next 12 months, 3 more artistic and literary performances scheduled across the calendar on the most important holidays in Venice.
