Electronic textile project by Agustina Bello Decurnex.
Latent emotions, waiting for Carnaval to surface.
Wool, mohair, elastic and polyester are knitted along with Nitinol, a memory alloy wire that changes length whenever electricity goes through it. Sequins and foam were added to the wool surfaces, like a magic mold growing and invading them. The Nitinol was knitted and embroidered into the textiles resulting in creeping and squirming movements that evoke growth in nature. The surfaces are never static but slowly getting ready for Carnaval to arrive. The movements are choreographed by an Arduino micro controller, going on a loop through the material. Like a goose-bump, the motion is not very apparent from far away but an experience better perceived from close up.
