This project emerged from a desire to critique the news media for the biases that exist behind framing news content. "29" aims to examine the relationship between news headlines and the photographs which accompany them. It is a deliberate attempt to decontextualize text and redefine the meaning of news through its juxtaposition with everyday life images and through wordplay.
1,329 photographs of everyday life, as defined by "ordinary" people ("ordinary" as in someone who is not necessarily formally trained in photography), and 29 National Post newspapers were collected in a span of 29 days to generate content. These were then edited, re-sequenced and captioned to form an entirely new narrative.
