1910 Jaffa, Palestin. Nachum, 9, a Jewish immigrant, meets Daoud, 11, an Arab porter who becomes Nachum’s best friend and his mentor for life in the Levant.
In Jaffa. Nachum develops his love for strong colors, sand and sea.
It is here too, that the boys grow up and understand that their friendship isn’t enough of a bridge to bring together two different cultures.
When the Turks, who rule the area, suspect the Jews collaborating with the British Army, Nachum and Daoud find that against their will, they fight against each other.
When the British conquer Palestine, Daoud leaves on a boat, dreaming of coming back as a doctor, and Nachum leaves to Jerusalem to become an artist
