This piece explores a hybrid nature between traditional work, public art, theatre and sculpture. The proposed performance exploits the intersection of chance and expectation with more traditional image making strategies in order to create a space of time during which almost anything might happen, despite the established framework. Nestled in an edgy niche between chaos and order, our performative actions will attempt to address the zeitgeist of early 21st Century America: its hopes, anxieties, obsessions, and concerns. This proposal also represents an attempt at subverting the model of art as commerce in favor of art as a redistribution of value: The performance will be free; the only commodity is experiential. We will use the granted money strictly to develop the piece. Student interns will receive fair payment. After the performance, the leftover materials will be sold off. Proceeds from this sale will be used to produce a catalog of the work, which will then be sold at cost.
