The Sindh Wildlife Department has taken an alleged turtle smuggler to court. It is a rare occasion that a smuggling attempt of our precious wildlife has been foiled. The alleged smuggler was caught at the Karachi airport taking 218 black spotted turtles to Bangkok.
We request you to attend the hearings to show your support for ending the illegal wildlife smuggling trade in Pakistan. Your presence will put pressure on the courts to make an exemplary punishment as well as on the Sindh Assembly to pass the necessary amendments to the currently porous law. The next hearing begins at 8.30am sharp on Wednesday October 22nd at the Malir Court. Please bring as many people with you as you can.
Black spotted turtles are one of eight freshwater turtle species found in Pakistan. They are listed in Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and their trade is banned internationally.
