This is a new documentary film by Anthony Rauld and Adam Hyman. It is about a Chilean artist, Guillermo Bert, and his quest to encode traditional Mapuche stories into QR codes and weave them into traditional Mapuche textiles. In the process of searching for these stories, he discovers that the Mapuche people of Chile are very much alive, but struggling to preserve their culture and livelihoods in the face of unflinching state repression and ecologically devastating transnational economic development. After centuries of racial and ethnic prejudice, the young generations of Mapuche are remembering and rediscovering the ancient knowledge handed down to them by their ancestors. Instead of rejecting 21st century technology, however, they are using it in their struggle for cultural survival and are often blending the ancient with the modern.
