Pakistan Army’s head of medical corps, Lt Gen Mushtaq Beg, and seven other persons were killed in a suicide bomb blast in the garrison town of Rawalpindi in 2008. At least thirty persons were injured and seven vehicles were damaged in the explosion. Beg is the highest ranking army officer killed in any suicide blast since Pakistan became a target of militants reacting to the army operation in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan in 2003.
