The Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action (CERAH) and the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (The Academy) are pleased to invite you to a symposium on the occasion of the launch of the book by Dr Sharon Weill: The Role of National Courts in Applying International Humanitarian Law (Oxford University Press, 2014).
Prof. Robert Roth: Director of the Geneva Academy; former judge at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. Prof. Roth will discuss the role of mixed and special tribunals.
Dr Shane Darcy: Lecturer at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland Galway and author of Judges, Law and War; The Judicial Development of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) (Cambridge University Press, 2014). Dr Darcy will address the role of international judges in the application and development of the law.
Dr Sharon Weill: Lecturer at CERAH/Sciences Po, Paris and researcher (FNS). Dr Weill will discuss the roles played by national courts during armed conflicts, through different examples such as the US, Israel and UK courts.
