Sony were kind enough to lend us the A7S to shoot some test video. We were very intrigued by this small mirrorless full frame low light capabilities, so of course we decided to stumble around in the dark and see what we could capture.
We created a short film, that we shot in just over two hours titled 'Chasing Shadow' ( The dogs name is Shadow! ) We used only one lens, the Canon 24mm f1.4 run through the metabones Canon EF - Sony adapter, with the camera mounted on our favourite piece of kit the MoviM10.
The cameras low light sensitivity is mind blowing, no additional lighting was used in any of these scenes, and we were able to shoot up to ISO 40,000 with clean images. This enabled us to capture imagery and detail that we havn't been able to achieve on other full frame DSRLS.
All images were shot on the pre loaded picture style, PP7 (SLOG ) and very lightly graded using a VSCO plug in, through lightroom. We didn't do any work on levels, simply slapped a filter on top. Any ambient audio was captured on the Sony A7S inbuilt mic.
This camera is going to open up a whole lot of new low light shooting possibilities, we think it's a great tool!
