The FORMATION of a city called TEHRAN goes back to 200 years ago. Before that it was a small village resting between surrounding mountains. Many political and social events have happened in this course of time that all have left their trace on the walls of this city. These events range from Revolution, Iran-Iraq war, economic reconstruction period to Reform and 2009 uprising.(K.Karimi).The Kurdish Iranian filmmaker Keywan Karimi on the evolution of graffitis in Tehran of the last three decades plus--about three decades ago I had written a book on the iconography of the Iranian revolution of 1977-1979 that included a chapter on these graffitis--later Hamed Yousefi did an excellent documentary for BBC and further expanded on some of the themes of that book, "Staging A Revolution" (2002)--now Keywan Karimi has brought the narrative of those graffitis down to the aftermath of the Green Movement of 2008"(Hamid Dabashi)
