For old times sake, this is a re-run of the best mountain event that I have participated in: The Alpine Mountain Marathon of April 2008.
Held in the Hakatere Conservation Park in the Southern Alps of Canterbury, New Zealand (Lake Heron area, west of Mt Somers) it featured stunning scenery and gut-busting demands. Classic.
Rogaine format, i.e. pick your route to gather as many points as possible. Amusingly, the guns who organised it had grossly underestimated the time it would take for the great unwashed to make it around the course. A demanding event. Spot the personalities of Christchurch orienteering as they lurch around the hills with overnight camping gear on their backs.
