October 12th 2014 we made a handprinted silkscreen replica of the original "Trolsk Sortmetall" shirt motif – a cult item in the metal underground.
This is to be included with the first hundred copies of the forthcoming Trolsk Sortmetall 1993–1997 vinyl box set produced by Century Media and documenting this seminal band's early years.
What makes this print extra special is that the ink with which they are printed is made of the original master tape.
That's right, Garm sent us the original 2 inch BASF analogue studio master tape – first used to record Bergtatt in 1994 and then overdubbed a year later with the Kveldssanger recordings. At the time the guys could simply not afford buying new tapes and of course had no idea that these albums would become milestones in the history of black metal.
Said tape has already been rendered unusable by heat and smoke from a fire in the basement where it was stored some ten years ago. This is not sacrilege.
It remains, however, of great symbolical value to this project and we could think of no better way to honor it and these albums than by grinding its tape to dust, and then use the remains to pigment our ink.
Signed and hand-numbered by Valnoir, all copies are printed on deluxe Arches paper.
