Swing Dancing from the Movie Hellzapoppin' (1941), Slim Galliard and Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers performing the Hellzapoppin' Jam. In the world wide Lindy Hop Swing Dancing community this is one of the most famous classic dance sequences. For Hollywood, they choreographed ‘airsteps’ aplenty, the first of which was created by Frankie Manning in 1935 (“back to back roll”) and was first performed at a dance contest at the Savoy Ballroom against George "Shorty" Snowden. They had to do so many takes and Frankie Manning commented that every time Ann Johnson kicked him it was for real. The music was dubbed in afterwards so the steps and beats don’t match as well as they would have done originally. Dancers (in order of appearance) William Downes and Micky Jones, Billy Ricker and Norma Miller, Al Minns and Willa Mae Ricker, Frankie Manning and Ann Johnson.
