The performers DJ Ipek Ipekcioglu, VJ Karajan a.k.a. Begüm Karahan, VJ Vidbeat, Ceyhun Soso Kaya and Kontrabil a.k.a. Bilgehan Özis put together a show using videos on three screens and live music performance at the Radialsystem V "New Sounds of Istanbul" event. The music consisted of recordings of street protests sounds that were captured at Tahrir square and Taksim Gezi Park together with electronic sounds and musical instruments like electric guitar, theremin, frame drum, dhol, clarinet, trumpet and music box. Human voice is also an important part of the performance carrying out narrational purposes.
The visual program adheres to the human element in political turbulences ranging from peaceful street sittings to street art and social media news circulation with a focus on Taksim and Tahrir protests. In the show on one side, the video mappings of a variety of city silhouettes are shown which aims to adapt the environment close to the theme. The second installation is a “television tree” on which resistance tweets and messages are streamed and finally the resistance visuals on the main screen portray a direct correlation to the musical performance.
The performance took 40 minutes.
