Precarious. This is the original Grunge Rock Song. This is the Very First Track that the initial "Classic Line Up" of G.e. Would ever record in early 1988 and Right from the beginning, Greenhouse Effect means serious business all the Way. The Guitar and Drums explode as Phil Keegan and Clark Hagins are off to the races - to not just compete with other bands - but also rather,...to compete with each other. And the Results worked magic. "I had cut all these personal 'demo' tapes at my house in Torrance that I would play for people and I had been sheepishly coming around and listening to Bassist Rick Carmody's new project where he was jamming with Keegan and also this really Good incredible drummer named Rich Hebben as they had formed this new three piece that was "All instrumental"....they would play pretty killer renditions of "Think About it" by the Yardbirds and "Mister, You're a better Man than I"..plus stuff like "Dazed and Confused" from Zeppelin,.....it was all "jammers' kind-of music ,..but they updated it with like these prog rock twists,..it was very intrigueing,..and their music was way vastly different from my kind of stuff. "Ted" (Rick Carmody) had been the bassist in the three piece called "Soul Clinic" with me and Redondo_Beach_Guitarist_Steve "Stevo" Stepanian,...we had like this incredible band but then in about mid 85' and into 86', we started going seperate ways from Ted,..ya know how bands end n' shit,...Me and Steve would try to jam with various bassists but it eventually just stopped as it ran it's course,..we tried to get Ted to come back and jam with us at Steve's Garage on Knob_Hill_Street_In_Redondo but he was by then jamming with Keegan too seriously. I remember way back to this day in like 1984 where Me and Ted went over to Keegan's house and we watched him play,..and I'll never forget how we were blown away,....I immediately secretly wanted to form a band with the guy but Ted may have had doubts - can't remember,....but we put him at the very top of the back-burner list incase we lost Stepanian. By 86' and 87', Stevo was playing alot of Volleyball down at the beach (I guess Topaz or Knob Hill near the Redondo Pier).. and I realised perhaps my musical days with him were over - and believe me,...'that' was a bummer because he was like this incredible blues guitarist and he sounded fantastic with my drumming and voice. We wrote like 30 really Very Good songs and the few gigs that we played were amazing,..I'll never forget this Show in Lomita at a club called Seymore Hams,...that gig was unreal - surreal,...it was exactly as good as the Who Live at Leeds or something,..we were incredible,....and the Lead Singer of that once huge band called the Twisters,...he asked me to be their new drummer !! "Precarious" trully was the ultimate Phil Keegan_Guitar moment but it gave my vocals their moment too as well"; "So what can I do for you , you say you'd like your soul saved ?? " so barks out the David Bowie meets Robert Plant/ Syd Barret reverb soaked vocals clumsily over the weirdly timed little rocker song that sounds like as if Zeppelin dropped acid at a Captain Beyond rehearsal. "Precarious" is amazing,...it is 'THE' SONG that launches G.e. to the World !! The muddy Guitar of Keegan is cranked up to 11 ala Spinal Tap where it feeds back and distorts with anger. It trully is Rock's first "Grunge Rock" as the vocals and lyrics from Hagins 'reveal' his own personal demon tortured life and soul as Keegan's axe wailing narrates. The drumming from Hagins points the way as Bassist Rick Carmody holds the little intricate song together and hangs on for his life for the ride as well in pure chaos !! "Precarious is the original Grunge Rock Sound ,....Everybody in Redondo Beach says so and agrees" says Clark Hagins "It trully is one of those moments that a band is almost perfectly captured both at their peek and their launch - its an awesome song,...that no other G.e. Song to come later after it - ever topped !!" - Precarious is a moment that a band known for hugely distorted guitar classics like "Brandy" and "Star" ,.. cannot be denied in the history of alternative and emo rock and Millions of views and downloads for this track make it one of the internet's Greatest !!
