With Rabbi Malcolm and Cantor Jen both back from summer camp, they sing a song related to this special Shabbat, Shabbat Nachamu, the Sabbath of Consolation.
Last week we marked Tisha B'Av, the day when we remember the persecutions of Jewish history. This week, though, we read from the fortieth chapter of Isaiah the words, "Nachamu, nachamu ami yomar Eloheichem/comfort, oh comfort my people, says your God". The following English words words will also be sung: "Comfort, comfort us in our wilderness. comfort us as we struggle to take care of one another. Comfort us, comfort us in our wilderness. Comfort us as we struggle with this world".
We will sing this song directly after the sermon which deals with the same topic of comfort and solace in tough times. Furthermore, these beautiful words will be chanted as part of the Haftarah on Shabbat morning.
