Gene & Georgetti located at 500 N. Franklin Street, a Chicago legend
for 70 years, marked a milestone birthday in 2011.
Opened by Gene Michelotti and Alfredo Federighi in 1941, the much-beloved eatery
nestled under the El tracks in River North has delighted generations of movie stars,
politicians, business moguls, and everyday folks with their famous wet-aged steaks and
generous cocktails in a club atmosphere.
The current owners, Tony and Marion Durpetti—Marion is the daughter of Gene
Michelotti—purchased the restaurant in 1990. Marion’s cousin Richard Ciota serves as
general manager while their daughter Michelle Durpetti runs marketing and events.
Famous faces that have stopped in throughout the years include legends such as Frank
Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Lucille Ball, and new Hollywood royalty like Russell Crowe,
Keanu Reeves, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell.
