The Anonymous Chorus is based on a photograph of a group of forty-two people purchased on eBay. The image has no attribution. We presume by the assemblage of men, women and children, gathered beneath the American flag and festive banner, that it is an extended family gathered for some special occasion. The video, and choral composition which accompanies it, seeks to examine the collective experience of portraiture, take us through the experience of the photographic object from its formation to it's disappearance, while contemplating the fragile lives the object attempts to hold, but cannot. The sound track includes the works of Charles Ives, an American composer whose work is contemporaneous with the image, and who loved the spirt of singing in the amateur voice. The work features the Oakham House Choir of Ryerson University.
