Two-thirds of children entering any of the five Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) centers show significant signs of developmental and language delays. Despite this terrible statistic, more than 90 percent of these children complete the BKS program on par with, or better than peers from families with higher incomes. That’s a stat we can cheer about. And BKS is indefatigable. It has provided high-quality, innovative and free early childhood education to low-income children in Brooklyn since 1891. Because of its founders’ vision and the tireless support and dedication of countless volunteers and staff, the lives of tens of thousands of children have been transformed, moving from at-risk to real opportunities for success in school and life.
