i'm part of a new project here in Montgomery, sponsored by FUMC, that is bringing the concept of Ancient Future Worship into the community.
our first event, right before Easter, was a full reading of the Gospel of Mark. it was an incredibly meditative evening, with readers speaking the text aloud, stations set up for contemplation, and images rotating on screens that depicted specific and connected events to the text being read.
i shot this on a Canon 5DMII, shortly after the new firmware was released to allow for 24fps filming. most of the shots were done with 24-70mm f/2.8L lens, wide open. the lighting available was natural light through windows and candles. i also used a Lensbaby Composer for a couple of shots (they're fairly obvious). i attempted to capture sound (had my Rode VideoMic on), but the auditorium acts like such an echo chamber, everything was muddled. next time, i'll remember to get a direct feed from the soundboard.
cut & edited in Final Cut Pro. color grading/correction in Color. used the Neat Video Noise filter on a few shots. i wish i knew how to get my exporting to come out better. the darker shots look great and even in FCP, but exported & compressed, there's a whole lotta' weirdness to be found in spots. suggestions are welcome.
music is "Central Park" from the movie 'King Kong' (Peter Jackson version), composed by James Newton Howard.
