Talk with photographer Richard Benari, as he presents a very personal art history, focusing on the works of Brice Marden and Robert Ryman, whose abstract paintings profoundly influenced his practice, prompting him to return to the studio after a seven year stint documenting the Mideast.
Benari and his partner, photographer Lauren Henkin, live in New York City. This fall they are in residence at 26 Split Rock Cove in South Thomaston. Pictures, their recent collaborative study of photographic abstraction, is in the collections of Brown University, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Smith College Museum of Art, the University of Oregon, and Yale University. They are also co-founders and editors of the online project “Tilted-Arc.com.”
