International musical sewing artist Lisa Simpson (AGENTE(costura)) comes to Vancouver to create a collaborative performance piece that explores textiles, sound, and the body, using clothing as a starting point. Investigating personal relationships with garments and the potential transformation of clothing, in search for rhythm and melody in the movements of a seamstress. A skirt is turned into a dress with just a few cuts and seams, emphasizing spontaneous changes, making music out of making clothes.
'Mine' is a work in progress by Vancouver dance artist Kelly McInnes which explores and magnifies our society's consumerist, materialistic culture using what we wear as the main focus. Kelly has been working on 'mine' in different capacities for the past two years and is currently working with dancers Rianne Svelnus, Sophia Wolfe, Jessica Wilkie and Kaitey Desante. During this residency Kelly will bring 'mine' as a starting point for collaboration with musical sewing artist Lisa Simpson and musician Ben Brown.
Ben Brown is the founder of MAMM, a collaborative series between live musicians and dancers based in Vancouver. 'Mine Agente' will be the second international residency in a series organized by Brown and hosted by Battery Opera Performance at their HopBopShop Studio in East Vancouver.
