"Falconry: Sport of Kings/Nerds," by Steve Oleson
What makes a a good falconer? You have to master factual minutia about hawk health, weather, predator/prey species, life histories, behaviorism, construction techniques & leather working. In short, only nerds are qualified to build a trusted hunting partnership with some of Earth's most highly evolved species.
Steve's love and understanding of animals was nurtured by understanding parents, who allowed him to care for a large variety of mammals, reptiles and birds, including several hawks and falcons. Steve became a falconer in 1965 and trained birds of prey for most of his life. In 2007, he formed Winged Victory, LLC, which employs hawks in bird abatement services to businesses. Steve has held many elected and appointed offices in the U.S. falconry community.
