This video presents visual excerpts from mixed media performance piece "Strengir" by Vinnslan, which was premiered at Tjarnarbio Theatre in Reykjavik, October 23rd, 2014. Visuals by Maria Kjartans & music 'Autumn Leaves' by Biggi Hilmars.
Strengir is a devised durational mixed media performance by Vinnslan, directed by Vala Omarsdottir, where the real and the artificial in theatre is explored. Strings looks behind the masks and the scenes in the creative making process; when are the performers performing, when are the artists real, and when are they honest, even vulnerable – or is it even possible in front of an audience?
Tools like repetition and playing with exhaustion can help to explore this and 8 different spaces backstage in a theatre are devised and used where performers, musicians, visual artists, light designer, costume designer, dramaturge etc. are place.
With exploring and finding the inner self and with physical exhaustion – repetition and cintinuanity for 4 hours – the material grows. The audience will witness the process – the process is the art work.
