From 1955 to 1986 Mr Emmanuel M. Mbwaye was Head of the Information Service`s Photo Section in Buea, Cameroon. In July 1961 he covered the Foumban Conference where the terms of the unification between Southern Cameroons and the Republic of Cameroon were negotiated. In this video he talks about his experience during this historical event.
Emmanuel Mbwaye served as a key informant for the project "Cameroon Press Photo Archives, Buea. Protection, Conservation, Access", implemented by African Photography Initiatives (2013-2014). He took the first photograph in October 1955 when the Photo Section was opened. 60 years later he continues to fight for the preservation and protection of nearly 120,000 negatives that are kept today in the Press Photo Archives Buea.
