In this second part of ALIVE & REMAIN 101, Dr. Don G. Pickney describes the biblical principle of The Law of Sin & Death. He shows from scripture that "death" was never the problem which had to be dealt with. From Adam we inherited a "sin nature." Sin, in turn produced spiritual death.
Jesus work on the cross was two-fold: (1) He paid the price for sin (Adam's original sin, and the entire nature of sin was borne by Him on the cross. "He became sin for us, Who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God." (2Corinthians 5:21)
He reminded us that the way death came from Adam was by the inheritance of the sin nature.
Romans 5:12 LITV "Because of this, even as SIN ENTERED THE WORLD THROUGH ONE MAN, AND DEATH THROUGH SIN, so also DEATH PASSED TO ALL MEN, INASMUCH AS ALL SINNED."
If it was not for Jesus, and His great sacrifice, the discussion would be:
"If only we could find a way to be separated from the Adam, from the spiritual sin nature, and be free from sin, then the by the 'Law of sin & death,' the 'death cycle' could be broken, and we could find freedom from death (the penalty of sin)."
THE ONLY THING IS: ALL OF THIS "IF" STATEMENT HAS ALREADY BEEN DEALTH WITH IN CHRIST AND IS PAST-TENSE. IT IS ALL COMPLETED. THOSE IN CHRIST ARE TOTALLY FREE FROM DEATH!
So, we ask, "Then why do people who are in Christ, who have accepted salvation, still die? The answer is simple: Physical death (dealt a death blow by Jesus at the cross for the body of Christ), still exists in the realm of the world, and living in this world, believers in Christ find themselves facing death as their enemy. It has been defeated, but not yet put under the feet of the body of Christ, the Church.
How has the Church dealt with this issue? They have laid down (in their coffin mentally) and went to sleep on the issue of physical death. They preach physical death for everyone, including those in Christ. The Church preaches, "All must die... it is appointed unto men once to die!" The world deals with physical death, however, they do not "preach it!" In fact they believe that with enough research, perhaps it could be conquered.
But the Church preaches, with so-called authority, "Every person must face death!" Apostle Paul, himself, was reaching to overcome physical death and find immortality while still in his physical body.
Philippians 3:11-14 AMP “That if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body]. (12) Not that I have now attained [this ideal], or have already been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of (grasp) and make my own, that for which Christ Jesus (the Messiah) has laid hold of me and made me His own. (13) I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, (14) I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.
You can see, Paul considered this a calling of Christ to him: “[supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”
