A student at my university brought this book in today for me to examine. It belonged to a 19th-century American general, George B. Dandy, and is purported to be bound in the skin of a "Sioux Indian." This video shows the volume, with an explanation by the owner. Sorry that the video cuts off suddenly, my memory card was full. My goal in this project is to 1) determine the authenticity of the story about this book, in a manner that is respectful of native beliefs and culture, and 2) if it does turn out to be what it is said to be, to see it returned to the tribal descendants of the individual.
