Scenes from the performance of Oh How I Love You during the opening of "My November Valentine" at REESE Gallery.
Oh How I Love You is a collection of wearable objects that explore ideas of identity, beauty, and love. The collection considers the garment in a way that disregards conventional concepts of beauty and challenges the human form. Inspired by children’s songs and love poems, the garments are made with a sense of impulse and playfulness that imitate the unself-conscious expression of these writings. This process attempts to rationalize internal emotions of beauty that compete with the demand of current external expectations.
from REESE Gallery website: Wearable Artist, Grace Kubilius, presents her collection inspired by children’s love poetry. Kubilius’ experimental garments allow us to cast off restrictive ideas of beauty in exchange for playfulness, purity and the unself-conscious expression of love as understood by a young heart. By creating with salvaged materials she is able to re-purposes identity. Embodying the curious nature of affection, her garments are a wearable declaration of love.
