The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh has been caring for children and young people in the Lothians and beyond for over 150 years. ‘Mail Porter’ is a tribute to the old Victorian building that has an important place in the hearts of so many of the families and staff that have passed through its doors.
The film is based on a poem written by Linda Cracknell, which pays homage to WH Auden’s ‘Night Mail’. Narrated by Alexander McCall Smith, the film follows the journey of the Mail Porter around the hospital. Interviews with staff, families and patients shed light on the little details that make the ‘Sick Kids Hospital’ so special for so many.
