This is a university project in which I was tasked to create a motion poster piece within after effects to advertise and persuade both a new and old audience to download the book. From the start I knew that I didn't just want to advertise the book but the 1984 experience. With the large eye watching onlookers and hypnotic spiral. I also added "subliminal" command messages the stop, watch, download and read the book. This is very fitting with the theme of the book. The colour pallet is also very reminiscent of Russian constructivism, this is important as Russian constructivism is considered to be one of the most prominent themes in the book.
Also, the poster contains a hidden QR code that takes you to IAMWATCHINGYOU.com, all though this doesn't exist as of yet, it would be a site in which you can learn more about the book and where you could able to download the book. The site will take away the viewers mouse control, only allowing them to exit the site with the esc key. The site will communicate through voice commands. This lack of choice in what the user can do creates that claustrophobic control 1984 is so famous for.
Lastly, I decided to put a NFC (Near Frequency Communication) strip in the frame of the motion poster. That way people will be able to connect there smart phones or, ideally, there smart watches to the poster. The poster would then take over there device (temporarily) and repeatedly ask them the question "2+2=" Every time the view writes 4 there device will vibrate. The more times they right 4 the stronger the vibration will get. However when the viewer finally realised the answer is 5 (from the book) then they will be rewarded by a 25% off voucher. This represents the way in which Winston is repeatedly tortured every time he answers the same question wrong. This playful interactive aspect of the game not only spreads news of the motion poster via social media and word of mouth but also ensures that even when the viewer has walked away from the poster they still have a piece of it with them.
Now sit back and watch, we will be watching you back...
