Where to even begin talking about this amazing event? The two things every filmmaker wants were present in full force: beautiful bright eye candy and a loving, expressive bride and groom. Being that it was a Hindu wedding, there was plenty of sparkle and color with all the lovely jewelry, bright saris, lush flowers, and rich draping, plus all the ceremonial items such as flowers and leaves, rice, fire, vermillion powder, coconuts, and more. Not only was everything beautiful to look at, but it smelled good, and the music was interesting, and there were smiles and laughter in abundance. Truly a feast for all senses. (Not to mention that we got to eat several authentic Indian meals which was SUCH a treat!)
We filmed for four days and each ceremony was different and full of beautiful symbolism. The Telugu Hindu wedding is said to “spiritually merge two souls” and it is believed that “marriage is supposed to be a family union and not an individual formality”, which was evident through each ceremony. All the parents and relatives were involved, showering the couple with rice and blessings, among other things. It was fascinating and touching to witness.
The rituals were rich, as is Aditi and Nate’s obvious love for each other. You only need to watch this short highlights to see the proof. They were able to so articulately express their affection for one another, both with their vows that they incorporated into their Western vow exchange, and also just with the tenderness with which they interacted. It was a privilege to be behind the lens capturing it all.
Many thanks to Aditi and Nate, and Aditi’s parents for trusting us to capture this auspicious event. It has been a joy!
Aditi said, “I’ve spent some time reflecting upon your presence at our wedding. I wanted to tell you that your calm, gentle, and warm demeanor was really impactful on my mood throughout the four days, and helped me stay in the moment and keep a balanced perspective on all of the events. In short, I think you helped me to fully experience all of the joy of that weekend, which is absolutely priceless. It’s also an intangible quality about your personality that makes you SO GOOD at what you do, and I have a lot of respect for that.”
And also: “OMG VANESSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am literally bawling right now. YOU ARE INCREDIBLE. I can’t even express how overjoyed I am. This is the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received. WOW I am just blown away. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I wish I could give you the biggest hug. I can’t stop watching it. Your camera and editing work is unbelievable. Best wedding video that I have ever seen.”
