Gary K. Michelson – who donated $50 million dollars to fund the project – has emphasised that work conducted in the USC Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience will be “goal oriented” and will yield “results manifested in the real world.”
The USC Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience will bring together an interdisciplinary team of researchers from within the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. The goal of the 190,000-square-foot center is to fast-track detection and cure of diseases by turning biological sciences into a quantitative and predictive science. With building completion expected three years from now, contingent upon an additional $6 billion in fundraising, the USC Michelson Center will soon become a hub of scientific breakthroughs in health and related fields.
