If you are out shopping in Ramona, you might notice a couple of extra four-legged deputies on hand. That's because the Sheriff's Volunteer Mounted Patrol are increasing their presence to keep you safe this holiday season. It's all part of Holiday Watch.
The horses go through a special training so they are not easily spooked and get used to loud sounds and people.
They are a visible deterrent to any would be criminals. Volunteer riders have a vantage point to deal with holiday crowds. They look for suspicious activity and urge people to be aware of their surroundings.
The horses are as popular as Santa and provides the Sheriff's Department an opportunity to interact with people especially children.
