"National: A Cross Country Story" depicts Tommy McGuan and several other members of the Chico State Cross Country team driving 2500 miles across the United States in a matter of days to watch their fellow teammates compete at the NCAA Division II National Championships In Louisville, Kentucky. This film captures the candid vignettes from countless hours spent on the road, stops along the way, as well as insightful interviews from current team members, as well as alumni, reflecting on their past trips stories and experiences. The film also depicts the races themselves.
This film was inspired by one of my professors in a Media Aesthetics class. He was talking about how in this day in age, we have all the tools at the top of our fingertips to "tell our story". With cameras built into our phones, and practical editing software on almost every computer, we really have no excuse not to make something. Not to say that this was filmed on a phone or anything, but he really opened my eyes to how convenient it is to make a production nowadays.
A quick note on the Music.
A good friend of mine, Adam Gold, has been creating mixing and producing his own music since 2011, when he was sixteen years old. After experimenting with different music I put a song of his into the edit, and it fit perfectly. Then 3 more songs also fit perfectly. He is an incredible artist, and I'm extremely lucky to keep EVERYTHING in the video "local"

I Apologize for the horrendous clipping in the race footage. I'm working on fixing it.
Thank you to everyone who helped me out during this process, from a practical as well as emotional stand point.
