Carpet of Time
by Masoumeh Jalalieh & Daniel Zimmermann
Carpet of Time is an evolving performance/ practice that explores resistance, resonance, and collective freedom through abstract movement and sound. Drawing from the geometric ornaments and “pattern singing” of Iranian carpet weavers, the work investigates how bodies navigate structure and transformation. Within a 9×9 point grid, performers generate ever‐shifting, non‐repeating constellations, revealing the tension between rigid systems and fluid relationality. This framework becomes a space where non‐hierarchical unity can emerge and limited boundaries open into shared, expansive possibilities. Developed across diverse places and contexts, Carpet of Time unfolds as a long‐term, site‐responsive project that weaves movement, film, and poetic reflection into encounters with landscapes, communities, and cultural memory, continually generating new iterations.
