Civil War communication techniques are explored in this game-like experience that challenges visitors to decode signal flag messages.

Throughout the Civil War units on the battlefield used signal flags to send messages to each other. After an introduction to how flag positions and movements translated to letters and codes, visitors engage in challenges that pit their decoding abilities against the clock as they watch video clips of a Union signaler atop Little Roundtop. There are three levels of difficulty and an overhead repeater screen for spectators to watch the signaler’s progress.
