On Oct. 23, 2014, China Focus hosted the inaugural Oxford-style Debate on China. Renowned China scholars Barry Naughton and Victor Shih led teams of student debaters to argue for and against the motion “The house believes that the Chinese economy will collapse in five years.” Shih’s team - the “proposition” - defended the motion, while Naughton and his “opposition” team argued against.
