At approximately 2:45 p.m., there was a report of a two-vehicle accident that claimed a man’s life on Auburntown Road, Highway 145 in the Woodbury city limits at Auburn Hills. According to reports, a man was trapped inside.
Robert Ward of Murfreesboro died due to injuries sustained in the accident.
According Trooper Butler of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 1995 Nissan pickup, driven by Ward, was traveling northbound on Auburntown Road and collided with a 1994 GMC Yukon that was traveling southbound, driven by Travis Dobson of Auburntown.
Both Ward and Dobson were transported to Stones River Hospital by Cannon County EMS.
Traffic was blocked both ways, and Woodbury Police Department held the traffic at Osborne’s at the corner of Main Street and Auburntown Road in order that emergency workers and Cannon County EMS could better respond. Included in the traffic block was a school bus, county road grader, and a truck with a gooseneck trailer loaded with beef cattle.
Two Cannon County EMS trucks responded and Lifeflight was called.
Since the man in the Nissan was trapped, Cannon County Rescue Squad responded with the Jaws of Life.
It appeared that the Yukon overcorrected and struck the Nissan, stated the trooper.
The Woodbury Police Department also worked the accident along with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The road was blocked for several hours.
The accident is under investigation, according to Butler.
