A deliberately "crappy" grindhouse trailer we made to submit for inclusion of Stephen Romano's "Shock Festival" book and DVD Series - http://www.amazon.com/Shock-Festival-Stephen-Romano/dp/1600103227
"Tentacles in a Twisted Deathdream" is made with a Canon XHA1 Camcorder in 1080i 24F Mode. I forget what custom preset look we used perhaps "Panalook"? Funk, vingetting, warm-washed scenes, super-saturated mish-mash of coloring made with Magic Bullet Looks in Adobe Premiere CS4. Starring Christopher Dimock. Directed/Edited by Adrian Santiago. Shot by Daniel Patterson. Special Effects/Boom operation by Garrett Wilkerson.
"Tentacles in a Twisted Deathdream" is a psychotic "thriller" about acid eaters searching for the true meaning of death. "Deathdream" follows the exploits of a group of hippies who drop an unnamed drug and become savage, paranoid killers, living in and out of nightmares about “The Twisted Monster,” an undefined malevolence which forces them to new and more sadistic acts of violence. The film moves through a series of arresting, orgiastic images, intercut with gory carnage.
In the final reel, all three men are consumed by madness in a three-way shootout in the Arizona desert. It is much less linear and far more surreal than its exploitive, mainstream ad campaign made it out to be, featuring long passages of life-worn prose, spoken by the film’s protagonist over the weird, psychedelic images.
