As St. Paul emphasized the need to run a race and win a prize, it reminded me how competition can be a foothold for pride and jealousy because it often leads us to compare our self with others. Anytime we begin to think of each one of us as more important or better than others, our competitive spirit is taking ourselves in the wrong direction. Our beloved Bishop emphatically stressed to the delegates that we have to imitate an important element of the Blessed Mother. This is ultimate example of humility. The world is filled with pride. Pride is the refusal to serve God
Mary, the model of discipleship said "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." This is a powerful response in obeying the will of God. Can we imagine if Mary had said - No way, I'm not interested or I really had something else in mind for my life? Sometimes we always ask questions why me, can you send someone? I can't do it. Why not saying, here I am Lord send me.
