My husband and I stayed at the Banning House Lodge (the only hotel in town), the second time this year. We loved it so much in the Summer time, we wanted to come back for the Winter. It didn't disappoint! Even more lush, green and beautiful than in the Summer (with even less people).
While there, I captured a few time lapses while vacationing a few days in the beautiful, New Zealand/Hobbiton like Catalina Island in the northern section called Two Harbors. It's a a lovely outdoors area looking across the isthmus with very secluded locations and barely anyone around...one of the best kept secrets for anyone close to the Los Angeles area wanting to get away. You don't always need a snowy landscape for Winter time!
I shot it using a Sony A7R mirror-less camera mounted on a MePhoto aluminum tripod, which worked out perfectly (and very light on the travel). A full 36MP on this sensor allowed me to scale down to 4K UHD and still leave room for camera moves. Also, the dynamic range on this sensor is just incredible, as you can see there is no banding whatsoever while the camera is pointed directly at the sun, capturing a smooth gradient for the sunset. Thanks for the memories again Catalina. Please enjoy these time lapses!
