Big Sur is one of our favorite places in the world. It is beautiful, serene, and breathtaking.
If you've never experienced its wonder, I hope that you will watch this video and one day see it for yourself!
This video was shot over the course of 2 camping trips (October 2013 & November 2014) accompanied by several toddlers each time. The time-lapses were shot using magic lantern. They were some of the first time-lapses we've ever shot (well before getting motion rigs and using ND or polarizing filters). The majority of the footage has been sitting on a drive in a crashed system which I just salvaged.
The aerial was shot using a GoPro 4 Black set 4k30p.
Oddly enough, you would think that the different weather patters are from the different trips however the overcast time-lapses are from just one of the days in 2014. The second day was totally clear. Big Sur is so vast and beautiful that you should experience it in both clear and overcast weather. It's like seeing two uniquely different landscapes.
We plan on returning in February/March 2015 to shoot more 4k footage now that we have switched to Sony a7s. By then we should have an Atomos Shogun.
