A showcase of our "Oh-Rats" installation in a Finnish science centre - Heureka. They have trained rats playing basketball in front of audiences and they needed a better "signpost" to guide people to the basketball court. This installation contains a computer, webcam and a projector. The webcam scans the projection area and we use OpenCV to track moving objects in its field of view. These objects are then given a radius and origin, which in turn is then transferred to a web browser via Twisted (Python) and websockets. The main routine uses Pixi.js to draw animated rats with WebGL. Each rat has a "brain" that uses steering behaviors (as laid out by Craig Reynolds) like wandering, cohesion, collision avoidance, and obstacle avoidance to name a few. Rats try to avoid each other and moving humans while wondering towards the basketball court.
