"Interference" is a digital mood piece that places the human figure and its technologies against a fantastical but natural landscape. It’s also an examination of two modes of electricity – the weather portrayed in the piece, and that encompassed by the mode of delivery, digital video. Shot in a lightning storm in rural Illinois, review of the footage found that the electricity generated by the storm interfered with the mechanics of the camera, producing streaking and artifacting, and distortion in the soundtrack. The final shot of the film posits the artist, the “user,” between these two energies, working in natural and manmade environments.
