Pushing traditional printmaking techniques to their limits, Samantha Parker Salazar constructs intricate cut-paper installations. Inspired by hours of meditation, her work focuses on the obsessive layering of surface imagery and stylized motifs. A vortex of cut forms and vibrant hues, the physical manipulation of paper gives the conceptual power of beauty, destruction, and potential to simple material.
A recipient of the John F. Fergus Family Fellowship, Salazar is a printmaking lecturer at The Ohio State University, and received her MFA from The University of Texas at Austin in 2014. Exhibited both nationally and internationally, Salazar will be a resident artist at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee, Belgium in Summer of 2015.
