Deacon John Moore, pianist, guitarist and songwriter. Currently the President of the Musicians Union and member of the board for Sweet Home New Orleans, Deacon John, and his group “The Ivories,” has been a mainstay on the local music scene for more than 50 years. He is also a great resource on the history of New Orleans music and was recently inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, not only for his outstanding musical contributions but for his deep commitment to the preservation of the music of the city.
The Arts Council of New Orleans each year celebrates the Community Arts Awards. Since 1977, the Community Arts Awards have recognized living individuals, organizations and corporations which have made outstanding contributions to the arts in New Orleans. Recipients are continue selected for their artistic excellence, sustained contributions, unique achievements, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the arts and local community.
